about

he nostalgia-drenched, polyrythmic antics, temples of ghostly techno and lo-fi shrines of synth-heavy house make up a sonic universe where dissent is discouraged but bassy grooves and reverb-soused samples keep believers happy.

Liam Hayden has been toying with hardware and analog gear since he was a kid, in the process conjuring up a distinctly sacred house and techno signature. Having first gained traction through SoundCloud and Bandcamp, the Montréal-based Cult Member has started to make a name for himself in the city’s underground electronic milieu. Hayden has also used a variety of aliases in his fledgling musical career, most notably as Ghoste, a popular figure in up-and-coming emo-rap group Gothboiclique. Cult Member’s nostalgia-drenched homage to turn-of-the-century emotional electronica is palpably felt on the recently released Last Week, which makes use of various machines and vintage hardware from the era.

Debuting at the festival on the outdoor stage, you are invited to unquestioningly commit to Cult Member’s belief system and move to his late nineties and early aughts-indebted bassy grooves.
